Just A Few Miles From The Grave
He said, "Peter, before the rooster crows, you'll deny me three times."
He looked at his Savior with tears in his eyes
And he told Jesus, "I'll never put down your name.
Lord, I love you with all my heart."
Before the rooster crowed the next morning
His heart was torn apart
How can I deny the one who died for me?
He prayed in the garden, and I just fell asleep
How can I deny the man who healed the blind?
Well, I'd follow Him forever, until the end of the line
But, when the rooster crowed and the sun came up
I had turned away three times
Standing in the middle of the world He came to save
Ready to pour His life out as a purchase of our grace
Lonely and abandoned just a few miles from the grave
Just to see His love returned by a kiss upon His face
Betrayal of the Son of God had taken mercy's place
To the sound of a rooster's crow, just a few miles from the grave
Early the next morning as the sun began to rise
I got up from my knees and I wiped the teardrops from my eyes
The weight upon my broken heart like dust was swept away
He said, "Tell them I'll never leave them, I'll never turn away
They'll never be abandoned regardless of their state
And I'll be waiting on the other side
Just a few miles from the grave"
How can I deny the one who died for me?
He prayed in the garden, and I just fell asleep
How can I deny the man who healed the blind?
Well, I'd follow Him forever, until the end of the line
But, when the rooster crowed and the sun came up
But, when the rooster crowed and the sun came up
When the rooster crowed and the sun came up
I had turned away three times
